Olivier takes off: Elected Mr International Rubber

Will our role model Olivier become the world's favourite rubber man?

For his first rubber party not so long ago, he had to quickly get some clothes - from Friday he will be on stage in Chicago as a candidate for Mr International Rubber: Olivier, our role model in November. We're keeping our fingers crossed!

Olivier flew there as Mr Rublcub 2010 - and he would love to come back as Mr International Rubber 2011. Even though he hasn't been in the rubber scene for very long and was so excited before the election in Karlsruhe that he almost didn't take part! (More about this in Olivier's story). If the 32-year-old Frenchman really does take the hearts of the international rubber community by storm, it would be a truly meteoric rise. We'll find out on Sunday which place Olivier ends up in. We're keeping our fingers crossed and interviewed the candidate shortly before his departure.

Olivier, here we go. Excited already?

Yes, very much! (laughs) My friends all say: "Don't worry, it's all just a game." But the people from the Rubclub have done a lot for me, booking the flight and so on. I think they're hoping I'll win a medal. I will definitely do my best!

What do you have to do to win the title?

Well, first of all I have to pose with lots of different rubber outfits, of course. There's also an interview in which I'm asked why I like rubber, why I want to become Mr Rubber and what I'd like to do if I were to win the title. The organisers also buy some surprising object - it could be a rubber duck, for example - and we contestants then have to make a spontaneous appearance with it.

Have you thought about what you're going to say in the interview? What would you want to do for the rubber scene?

I've already done a lot this year as Mr Rubclub. I've mainly been travelling in Germany, but also in France and the Netherlands. There is still a lot to do in the rubber scene. The overall offer is not bad, and there are also some special events in Spain and Italy. But more definitely needs to happen in Austria and England, for example. At the moment, the various fetishes - from leather to sportswear and Lycra to rubber - are mixed at many events, but there are still no real rubber parties there.

Why does it have to be a pure rubber party?

Many rubber people prefer that. They just like rubber. And that also plays a role in sex. In the leather scene, for example, Crisco is often used as a lubricant, and that ruins the rubber clothes. (Crisco also destroys condoms and latex gloves. You can find more information about the right lubricant for sex with rubber here. Editor's note)

As an international representative of the rubber scene, what else would you like to initiate?

We need more parties where young people can try out rubber, like at the Rubclub in Karlsruhe. There's the opportunity to borrow clothes. Many people are interested in rubber, but the clothes are very expensive - a top can cost as much as 120 euros. With a hire shop, you give everyone the opportunity to get a feel for it and get a foot in the door.

The most important question: Why do you actually like rubber so much?

For many reasons! It's like a second skin. You can see your body because it's so tight, but you're not naked. I like it when there's still something to unpack on a man. When you wear rubber yourself, it feels like you're being lightly massaged. And you can integrate it into sex games in many different ways.

You're about to board the plane to Chicago. Have you ever been to the USA?

No, and I won't have much time to see anything in Chicago either. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough holiday left to stay longer. I used it all up - for the events in the rubber scene and for I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING.

Olivier, we wish you the best of luck. Keep us up to date!

I'll write as soon as I know how it turned out.
