The 19th World AIDS Conference began on Monday in Washington. Right at the start, our role model Marcel made his first appearance. He proved to be extremely popular: He was accompanied throughout the day by journalists from Deutsche Welle (we will also be reporting on this later).

And then came his first major appearance on stage at the SPEAKING OUT - HIV PREVENTION WITHOUT BARRIERS event at the Goethe Institute. There he also met Health Minister Daniel Bahr, who praised the work and commitment of ICH WEISS WAS ICH TU.

However, Bahr was also called to account by the participants at the very political event. Germany must report more internationally on its positive successes in prevention so that other countries can also benefit from this knowledge.

Thilo and Marcel were delighted by the great interest shown in the discussion and their performances.

Marcel also received some very personal feedback. From his mum. When asked how she felt about the fact that her son was now hanging on posters up to 15 metres high at the event and in the streets, she simply replied "So cute!" His whole family is proud of him. And of course we are too.

Thilo and Marcel, we wish you continued success and lots of fun at the conference. We will of course continue to report on your impressions here.
