Column, Part 1: Warm-up for the GayGames

The time has come! Here in Cologne, the GayGames are slowly but surely beginning to dominate the cityscape. Attractive men with the relevant folding plans stand at the roadside asking questions, the stands for the Villages are set up in the squares and the Hahnentorburg appears at night bathed in a sea of pink colours. Goosebumps are spreading...

At least for me. After all, I've already taken part in Amsterdam and Sydney as a participant in standard and Latin dancing and this time I'm doing my bit as a volunteer - a matter of course for me as the "host city of Cologne". That's why I can at least guess what's in store for us.

Over the last few months, a huge number of volunteers have brought these games to life. With a lot of effort and attention to detail. And yet yesterday, I once again had to witness how some faggots had nothing better to do than complain about the supposedly poor organisation. Quote: "They don't tell you about it anywhere and if none of them ask me, it's no wonder there aren't enough beds and helpers." Hello?! I'm actually speechless! Just go to google and type in "Gaygames Cologne" - that's obviously too much to ask. Sorry girls, but community only works through active participation!

Well, instead of letting the ignorance of some complainers spoil this great event, I did my personal warm-up yesterday in a not-so-public bathing establishment. Everyone there is also in GayGames fever: open round the clock, daily barbecue and infusions, and the infusions have already been translated into several languages. That's how you welcome your guests! I myself had the pleasure of meeting a nice young man with a South American flavour. He was from Bonn, but I only found out afterwards...

In any case, the GayGames will have a lot to offer me and everyone who wants to get involved and take part - in every respect. That's why I'll be providing you with regular impressions of the hustle and bustle here on the blog over the next few days. Because I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING is also "part of it"!
