Dame Elizabeth Taylor leaves a large part of her private fortune, estimated at at least 700 million dollars, to two Aids foundations she founded
After Elizabeth Taylor was buried on Thursday last week, the opening of her will was not long in coming. It is not possible to say exactly how large her fortune currently is. According to the latest - but 15-year-old - estimates, the value of her art and jewellery collection alone totals 300 million dollars. Large parts of it are to be auctioned off
Experts assume that the film star will leave behind total assets worth between 700 million and one billion dollars.
According to her will, almost half of this will go to the two AIDS foundations she co-founded, the American Foundation for AIDS Research, or amFAR for short, and the "Elizabeth Taylor HIV/AIDS Foundation". In this way, Dame Elizabeth is ensuring that both institutions are funded for decades to come and can continue their work. amFAR has been involved in basic research and the search for a vaccine against HIV for three decades, while the "Elizabeth Taylor HIV/AIDS Foundation" funds support programmes and care for people suffering from AIDS in the USA and worldwide.
