H&M is selling "Fashion against Aids" again from today
"Fashion against Aids" (FAA) is a joint campaign by "Designers against Aids" and H&M. The Swedish clothing giant is using prominent faces for the fourth time this year to "spread knowledge about HIV and Aids and the message of safe sex in the world".
The highlight of the 2012 collection: it is unisex. It is available from today in the Divided departments of H&M and online. 25 per cent of the proceeds will be donated to the charity organisation "Designers Against AIDS" (DAA) and other international HIV/Aids prevention projects. So far, more than 41 million Swedish kronor (4.6 million euros) has been donated through the FAA campaigns.
The Scissor Sisters are back this year for the third time in a completely honorary but still gorgeous role, but fellow actors Penn Badgley, Ginnifer Goodwin and Selma Blair, Keri Hilson, Sky Ferreira, Akon, Nikki Reed, Shiloh Fernandez and The Misshapes also look damn good in their "one gender fits all" outfits.
"It's great and very fitting that this year's collection is unisex," says Selma Blair. After all, men and women are also affected by Aids. We're all in the same boat."
Singer Akon explains why he is taking part: "I have friends and family members who are or have been directly affected by HIV and Aids. During my travels, I have realised that HIV and Aids are global problems. And there is no cure, which is why prevention is so important. If you practise safe sex, you have little to worry about."
Ninette Murk, founder and creative director of Designers against Aids, believes that the participation of so many prominent artists is essential for the success of the campaign. "The artists are the role models of the younger generation. Their fame helps us to spread our message. But they themselves also actively contribute to this on their homepages and in social networks such as Facebook or Twitter."
The IWWIT blog editors' favourite piece: Ana Matronic's peach-coloured trench coat. Bold spring fashion with a message. We like!
