Today sees the launch of nearox.de in Germany, a new social network "by gays for gays", which aims to overtake Gayromeo and is committed to AIDS aid
Heiko Fuchs is in a good mood on the phone. The man is convinced of his idea for a "gay Facebook" and can obviously hardly wait for the launch of nearox.de. "We've been working on it for a long time and it will be exciting to see how the community reacts to our ideas." They are relatively simple: a social network "by gays for gays", a best of Grindr, Facebook and co. that can be used on mobile phones, tablets and any computer, tailored to the needs of the gay end user. According to Fuchs, these can be described as follows: "We want to get the guys back where they belong: Into the scene." nearox.de wants to achieve this with a lot of interactivity: There's the "Check In" function, which allows you to show others where you're spending the evening. Anyone who clicks on the location marked in this way can see who is or will be there.
Users can personalise their profile in a way that is almost unheard of: voice messages, videos, social preferences, favourite places to which you simply link, the exact evening plans that you share with the friends who are to take part.
"In contrast to other networks, I want people to be able to get a much more accurate picture of the person they are meeting or would like to meet, including their voice and the person in motion. And you can offer others just as much information about yourself. With other providers, you often sit in front of the screen to clarify the details until nobody wants to leave the house. That doesn't have to be the case, we can do it better."
To mark the launch of the site today, there is another good reason to register with nearox free of charge: For every user who does so today, the company will donate one euro to Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe. "Absolutely no upper limit. The more people who register, the better," says Heiko Fuchs. We think so too.
