Super-Stephan in the countryside

The cathedral stayed in Cologne, Stephan ran on the spot. This is how our jump-and-run spot came about.

The cathedral stayed in Cologne. Stephan ran on the spot - and still ended up on the winners' podium. Paul Schulz from the multimedia journalism agency Onkel und Tanten on the production of the video game advert for the Gay Games. 

"Imagine lifting a lift!"

 The countdown to the Gay Games is on: It starts on Saturday. ICH WEISS WAS ICH TU has produced sporty video adverts. The first shows how role model Stephan works up a sweat in a video game. 

How did you come up with the idea of including our Stephan in a jump-and-run game? 

Super Mario was our graphic designer's first great love and how else could Stephan, as a normal sportsman, do 30 sports in 25 seconds? 

That was all? 

Of course, we had a little more in mind. In the advert, Stephan represents all the positive people who are competing at the Gay Games. His campaign slogan is "Positive? I won't let it get me down!". So one or two complications had to arise without the difficult aspects being given too much weight. Stephan had to get really out of breath, so to speak, but end up on the winner's podium. The whole thing had to be funny, visually unusual and fast-paced.

And then in Cologne too ...

... exactly, and without us being able to shoot there. (laughs) The advert was also supposed to work for guests of the Gay Games who don't speak German. It all worked out, which makes us a little bit proud. 

And what did Stephan think of the idea? 

Funny. He immediately understood where we were going with it. And he surprised us enormously with his acting talent during the shoot. That made our work incredibly easy.    

How did you realise the spot technically? 

We shot in front of a so-called green screen, a green wall. Our graphic designer Conni Robe then created and painted everything except Stephan around him on the computer. We had to think very carefully about every movement that Stephan was supposed to do at the end. Everyone needs a lot of imagination for a shoot like this and we come up with some great phrases like "I think the ball is bigger", "And now imagine you're lifting a lift" or "Can you run on the spot really fast?"       

You've made even more sports adverts for us. What are the other two about? 

We produced three adverts with three role models: The "animated film" with Stephan, an "action film" with Harry and a short "drama" with Christian. The results will all be available in this theatre this week.
