Drugs & safer sex

Under the influence of substances (drugs, alcohol, etc.), you may do things or allow things to happen that you would not do or want to do if you were sober. Sex in combination with drugs is also known as chemsex. Clarify beforehand what you do or don't want to do and which safer sex method you use.

You should also make sure you stick to your safer sex method when using drugs. The PrEP can be more reliable than a Condom as you can take them well before your drug use.

Substances such as ecstasy, speed, crystal or LSD change your day-night rhythm: you may dance the night away or sleep through an entire day. Then you take your PrEP or HIV medication (if you have Protection through therapy do) at the usual intervals or not at all. This can lead to the development of dangerous resistance.

So before you head out for a long weekend, always pack enough drugs - the party may last longer than you expect. Using a condom correctly can be more difficult when you're 'drunk', so think about what safer sex strategy is right for you beforehand and stick to it.
